The October 17th fundraising event is taking place at Edna’s of Asheville on Merrimon Avenue starting at 7:00 pm. The event costs $65.00 per person, and all tickets sales go directly to Joy Center Asheville. The admission includes heavy appetizers, drinks, classy entertainment and a high-end silent auction.
Despite the growing awareness of LGBT youth homelessness in this region, there are still no local facilities to house and help these youth to become self-sustainable. “We believe that the Joy Center, Asheville will become a regional beacon of hope. The issue of LGBT homelessness in this region is worse than in many others, due to the fact that many young people are ejected from their homes by their parents because of misguided religious beliefs,” says Pastor Tom Cash of Jesus People Church of Asheville.
Pastor Francisco Gonzalez, also a member of the Jesus People ministry team says, “Many times, when I am out listening to these kids’ stories on the streets and how they are rejected by their families, it becomes apparent that many are depressed and contemplating suicide. This just simply cannot continue.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased online at www.joycenter.eventbrite.com. For more information on Joy Center Asheville visit www.joycenterasheville.org. Joy Center Asheville is a ministry of Jesus People Church of Asheville, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Donations are Tax Deductible.
